With New Crackdown, Biden Wages Global Campaign on Chinese Technology

NYT > Economy

In conversations with American executives this spring, top officials in the Biden administration revealed an aggressive plan to counter the Chinese military's rapid technological advances. China was using supercomputing and artificial intelligence to develop stealth and hypersonic weapons systems, and to try to crack the U.S. government's most encrypted messaging, according to intelligence reports. For months, administration officials debated what they could do to hobble the country's progress. They saw a path: The Biden administration would use U.S. influence over global technology and supply chains to try to choke off China's access to advanced chips and chip production tools needed to power those abilities. The goal was to keep Chinese entities that contributed to potential threats far behind their competitors in the United States and in allied nations.

Ukraine's valiant efforts to defeat Russia being undermined by Chinese technology

FOX News

Ukrainian member of parliament Rustem Umerov reacts to President Biden announcing on Wednesday another $1.2 billion in security and humanitarian assistance on'Fox News @ Night.' An individual's location is typically known to someone or thing at any given time whether using a smartphone or device – such as a drone. This issue has become one of tremendous strategic importance for Ukrainians in their battle against Russian aggression. Allegations have arisen that Da-Jiang Innovations (DJI), a Chinese company that is the world's largest civilian drone manufacturer, has been providing the Russian military with software to track Ukrainians piloting DJI drones used to conduct operations. The matter raises grave new concerns about the behavior of another Beijing technology behemoth and its impact on Ukrainian self-defense efforts. Ukraine's minister of digital transformation sent an open letter to DJI founder Frank Wang in March accusing Russia of using "an extended version of DJI AeroScope" to navigate missiles that are killing Ukrainian civilians.

The United States Has Fallen Behind China on Artificial Intelligence

According to U.S. intelligence reports, China successfully convinced Russia to delay its invasion of Ukraine until after the Beijing Olympics. China has denied the accusations, but reports suggest that however the current crisis in Ukraine ends, Moscow is likely to end up as Beijing's junior partner on the international stage. There's no doubt that China has become the United States' major competitor. The recent Beijing Olympics showcased one particular threat, as China trotted out new artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics technologies with vital relevance to Washington's current geopolitical tensions with Beijing. From driverless buses to high-speed rail powered by 5G, advanced Chinese technology was featured front and center.

Chinese tech giant Huawei is another powerful addition to this pool of technological resources. One of GAC MOTOR's core brand values is technology innovation, that is, finding ways to make cars more intelligent, more efficient, and more enjoyable to drive. A world-class smartphone provider, Huawei regularly produces cutting-edge technology in fields such as voice and facial recognition, IoT connectivity, "smart" appliances, cameras and charging technology, to name just a few. Having cooperative access to Huawei's research and technology gives GAC a strong edge in the production of world-class in-car systems. One exciting project that GAC is working towards in cooperation with Huawei and Didi is "Level 4" autonomous vehicles, which can operate almost entirely without input from humans (current driver-assist mechanisms are classed as Level 2 autonomy).
